  1. What is Internet Call Manager (ICM)?

Internet Call Manager is the cost-effective solution to the problem of missed calls while your phone line is busy because you're on the Internet. It is ideal for anyone who wants the freedom to be on-line. You can comfortably do everything you do on the Internet worry-free while ICM monitors your telephone line.

When someone calls you while you're on the Internet, the call is forwarded to an ICM server. The ICM server collects the caller's information and sends it across the Internet to your computer screen. A pop-up window shows you information about the caller, and allows you to choose how you want to handle the call.

There are two versions of ICM available:

    ICM Classic:
When you receive a call, you can choose one of the following options:

    • Play a Message - Click this option and you'll have the choice of playing your caller one of a variety of messages. You can customize these yourself!
    • Voice Mail - Send callers to Call Answer, if you subscribe to this service.
    • Ignore - Your caller will hear ringing and you can continue your Internet session in privacy.
    • Open Door - "Buzz" visitors into your building without having to disconnect from the Internet.

    ICM Plus:
ICM Plus is available to residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality, the St. John's local calling area, and throughout New Brunswick. When you receive a call, you can choose these options:

    • Play a Message - Click this option and you'll have the choice of playing your caller one of a variety of messages. You can customize these yourself!
    • Voice Mail - Send callers to Call Answer, if you subscribe to this service.
    • Answer - You will be disconnected from the Internet, and the call will be sent to you through your phone line.
    • Transfer - Transfer the call to another number, like a cell phone.
    • Ignore - Your caller will hear ringing and you can continue your Internet session in privacy.
    • Open Door - "Buzz" visitors into your building without having to disconnect from the Internet

ICM also allows you to set nicknames for callers and choose how to automatically handle calls. You can customize ICM to work whichever way suits you best.

  2. How does ICM work?

The ICM software (once downloaded and installed) runs on your computer. When you are on the Internet, this ICM software connects to our ICM server. This is how ICM knows where to send your calls. The Status Indicator on your ICM Main Window or on the System Tray icon will be green or yellow when your software is connected to our server.

For ICM to work, your calls must reach our ICM server when you're on-line - the same server to which your ICM software connects. To do this, we place a feature called Call Forward Busy on your phone line. When someone calls you, the call is forwarded to our server, where the information about the caller is captured and then displayed to you through an Incoming Call Pop-up. You can then choose how you want to handle the call.

  3. How much does ICM cost?

For information on the cost of ICM, please visit our Billing Questions section.

  4. How long is the ICM free trial?

The ICM free trial lasts for 1 month for all new customers. This trial starts on the day your ICM service becomes active. This is a limited time offer, available only to first-time ICM customers, which could expire without notice.

  5. What do I need to use ICM?

The minimum system requirements for ICM are:

    • An IBM compatible computer, with a 486 processor or better
    • Windows95, Windows98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows NT4 (SP 3 or greater), or Windows XP
    • An Internet connection of at least 14.4 kbps
    • You must have the ICM software installed on your computer
    • Your calls must reach our server when you're on the Internet. This is accomplished through a feature called Call Forward Busy which we will add to your line.

  6. Will ICM monitor ALL of my calls when I'm on the Internet?

Yes, ICM monitors all of your incoming calls while you are on the Internet, long distance or local.

When someone calls you, an ICM pop-up window will appear on your computer screen with information about the caller, and allow you to choose how you want to handle the call.

  7. Will ICM work with all Internet Service Providers (ISPs)?

ICM works with all standard Internet Service Providers!

  8. How do I get ICM?

To begin your free trial of ICM, please click on Signup today! You will be asked to provide some basic information. There is then a short download and installation process to complete based on the easy step-by-step instructions provided. The entire sign-up process for ICM should take fewer than 10 minutes.

  9. Can I cancel the ICM service at any time?

You can cancel your ICM service at any time by notifying our customer service team.

  10. I feel uncomfortable downloading your software. Is it safe?

Downloading our software is both secure and private. All of our software is developed by a trusted partner organization, and all of our equipment is continuously scanned for viruses, so we can assure you our software is safe.

  11. Do you sell any personal information?

Please refer to our privacy statement for more information.

  12. Can ICM accept faxes?

If a fax is sent to your phone number while you are on the Internet, you will receive notification that you have an incoming call. Unless you recognize the number, you will not be told that it is a fax machine. Thus, the fax cannot be received since your phone line is busy. Since most fax machines make multiple attempts to send a fax, you can disconnect immediately and wait for the fax to be re-sent.

  13. My phone number has changed. What will I need to do to continue using ICM?

As ICM accounts are specific to the phone number, not the person nor the household, you will need to go back to our web site to sign up for a new account under the new phone number. To ensure you are using our most recent software release, please download the software when instructed to do so and install it using your new phone number. If you do not, your account will not be confirmed and no action will be taken on our end to activate your new ICM account. You will also need to cancel your old ICM account. To do so, please notify our customer service team.

  14. My e-mail address has changed. How do I update my e-mail address so I will continue to receive ICM correspondence?

You can tell us your new e-mail address on your secure Account Page. To access this page, click the Account button on your ICM software. Then choose the Update E-mail link.
